Rules 2010
Birds Only birds bred at the loft will be used for this race. No birds from outside lofts will be entered, this is to reduce the likelihood of medical problems occurring. For 2010 I will not be bringing in gift pigeons. I have arranged for eggs from White birds so that the raffle birds will be as near pure white as possible this should make it more interesting for the school syndicates. The birds will be owned and raced in the name of Coutts Evans & McKay. All of the birds will be raced on the darkness system. Payment To be made on or before the draw on 30th May or withdrawl will ensue. Syndicates Each syndicate will have a maximum of 40 entries, plus one 'gift' pigeon. It is anticipated to have an Aberdeen Federation and a North Federation syndicate. If we fail to get 40 applicants for any syndicate outside entries will be used to make up the numbers. There will be no limit on the number of syndicates. Any...
2010 progress report
January 20th this is the pens the pigeons will be put into, one cock and one hen per pen they will be let out to be fed and watered but will return until they lay there eggs so that I know which parents each youngster is bred from. The sections have been cleaned disinfected twice and left all winter, I have put large wood chips on the floor and a layer of hay. The hay will be used buy some of the birds to make nests. The small door at the end of the section will be opened to allow the pigeons out into an aviary this enables them to get a nice bath and some sunshine on there backs. The hen sits on the eggs most of the time but the cock will sit on them in the afternoon Once the two small white eggs are laid they all get out together. January 23rd Cocks and hens introduce to the pens. There are 8 pens per section with 2 birds per pen each pen is opened to let the two birds out for food and water. Only 2 get out at a time then locked up and the next 2 get out...

Schools Charity Project 2010
I was asked to give a talk to three classes of school children who were at the University to celebrate Charles Darwin's 200th birthday. On arrival at the Zoology building everything was set up for the school children and I was last in place. I decided to make it quite low key as I soon found out the children and teachers knew nothing about racing pigeons. Unfortunately it was a terrible day, snowing heavily and very cold. The three school classes expected were: Riverside Primary. Woodside Primary Kittybrewster Primary Unfortunately Woodside Primary could not attend because of the weather. St Peters Primary which is quite close filled their place. There is a school bus which travels round most of the schools in Aberdeen advising on natural history and was also present for the children to visit. The University put on a wonderful display for the children and also presented them with a cake to celebrate Charles Darwin’s birthday. The talk on the racing pigeons went very...
Future plans for 2010 for the Schools Charity
Working on the school challenge for 2010 and I hope to have some interesting surprises for the schools involved. See schools entered for 2010 for entries to date. I have arranged to get White racing pigeons (6) for the school syndicates raffle with each one having their own white racing pigeon. I am working on presenting the Four winning pigeons in each school syndicate with a presentation plaque. I would welcome any suggestions to peruse about making the event more interesting for the children, teachers and school. Would you like to sponsor any part of this event or make suggestions or gifts to present.
